Press/Video: ‘Extinction’ Trailer: Michael Peña’s Nightmares are the Key to Saving Humanity in Netflix Original Film

Thanks to Kayla for the heads up!

Director Ben Young made a name for himself in the indie film world with his grisly psychological horror-thriller “Hounds of Love,” and now he’s taking a similar psychodrama approach and applying it to the science-fiction drama. Young is behind the camera for “Extinction,” the latest science-fiction offering from Netflix. The movie looks to give MVP supporting actor Michael Peña a lead role worthy of his skills.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “A working class father of the future faces recurring dreams of destruction by an unknown force. When his unwanted nightmares begin to affect his relationship with his family, he soon realizes they may be the key to a horrible reality, as a relentless alien attack begins to destroy the Earth. As the invaders’ assault progresses, he is forced to find both the strength to protect his family and an understanding of who he truly is.”

Starring opposite Peña is Lizzy Caplan and “Luke Cage” breakout Mike Colter. The movie joins Netflix’s long list of 2018 science-fiction movies, which include “The Cloverfield Paradox,” “Tau,” “Mute,” and “The Titan.” The streaming giant also had success with the sci-fi television drama “Altered Carbon.”

“Extinction” will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 27. Watch the trailer below.

Press: Lizzy Caplan To Star In Apple Drama Series ‘Are You Sleeping’

Get ready to see a whole lot more Lizzy. She just nabbed not one, but two roles in the new Apple drama series Are You Sleeping. Who’s excited!?

Former Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan has been tapped for a lead role opposite star Octavia Spencer in Are You Sleeping, Apple’s upcoming 10-episode thriller drama series from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and the scripted drama venture of Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.

Are You Sleeping, created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber, provides a unique glimpse into America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts and challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage.

Caplan will play twin sisters Josie and Lanie, whose lives have taken very different paths. I hear she has a one-year deal. Spencer plays the investigative reporter behind a hit true-crime podcast that reopens the case of Josie and Lanie’s father’s murder.

Are You Sleeping is executive produced by Spencer via her Orit Entertainment, Tramble, who serves as showrunner, as well as Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, and Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo for Chernin Entertainment.

Caplan starred as human sexuality research pioneer Virginia Johnson in praised drama Master Of Sex, which ran on Showtime for four seasons. The role earned her a lead actress in a drama series Emmy Award nomination. She is repped by WME, manager Julie Darmody and attorney Karl Austen.

Press: Kong: Skull Island Director Has Met With Fox For Gambit

I thought this was an interesting article about Lizzy’s rumored upcoming film Gambit.

When Fox didn’t include Gambit on their list of future X-Men installments the other week at CinemaCon, it fueled rumors that perhaps Channing Tatum’s long-gestating passion project was dead and gone. According to producer Simon Kinberg, however, the Ragin’ Cajun’s solo movie is still alive and kicking.

By now, Gambit fans should know better than to be presumptive whenever a bit of news regarding their beloved bō staff wielding mutant surfaces, having seen the titular role bounce back and forth between several actors. Keanu Reeves, Josh Holloway and Taylor Kitsch have all been linked with the part, before Tatum took up the mantle and made it his goal to get the project off the ground.

Rumored to begin production on June 19th in Remy LeBeau’s hometown of New Orleans, the pic, which has been in pre-production limbo for what feels like forever now (since 2014), has yet to secure a director, despite having gone through at least three heavyweight helmers – Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman and Gore Verbinski. But make no mistake about it, the search for someone to sit behind the camera is definitely underway.

Though there’s no word yet on an official shortlist, we do know of at least one individual who’s met with Fox. Thanks to Umberto Gonzalez, we can confirm that Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts spoke to the studio about snagging the job. Don’t take that to mean that it’ll be him who eventually helms the pic, but it’s interesting to learn that he’s someone who Fox has their eye on.

Pitched as a supercharged heist movie – think Ocean’s Eleven…with mutants – Tatum will take point as the devilish Remy LaBeau in Gambit, where he’ll be joined by Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), who recently clinched the female lead. At the time of casting, 20th Century Fox stopped short of mentioning specifics, though budding fans have already linked Caplan’s addition with the seemingly vacant role of Bella Donna.

Gambit is currently tethered to a June 7th, 2019 release, though we fully expect that date to change once Fox locates the film’s fourth (and surely final?) director. Whether that’ll be Vogt-Roberts or someone else entirely, remains to be seen, but as always, we’ll let you know as soon as we learn more.
